Summary

This decree establishes the National Committee for the Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, Conservation of Forest Carbon Stocks, Sustainable Management of Forests and Increase of Forest Carbon Stocks - REDD+.


This body is set up to provide guidance to state and federal governments and issue resolutions regarding the implementation of REDD+ in Brazil, in line with UNFCCC requirements. One of the Committee's responsibilities includes "the formulation, regulation and structuring of financial and market mechanisms to promote and encourage REDD+, pursuant to the provisions of art. 5th, art. 6th, art. 8 and art. 9 of Law No. 12,187, of December 29, 2009".


The decree sets out the mandate and composition of the Committee. The decree also revokes Decree No. 10.144, of November 28, 2019.
