Electric Vehicle Import Mandate and ICE Vehicle Ban

Ethiopia announced a ban on the importation of gasoline and diesel vehicles on January 29, 2024, becoming the first country in the world to implement such a policy, with the aim of reducing fuel import costs and air pollution. It is enforced through a combination of prohibitively high import duties on internal combustion engine vehicles and duty-free imports for electric and hybrid vehicles.
