Long-Term Generation Expansion Plan (LTGEP) 2025-2044

The Long-Term Generation Expansion Plan (LTGEP) 2025-2044 provides a guiding framework and priority areas for the maintenance and development of the electricity supply in Sri Lanka, co-ordinated by Ceylon Electricity Board, the state-run energy monopoly. The plan aims to balance affordability and reliability with sustainability, emphasising the threat posed by global climate change and the need to significantly expand the renewable energy supply. The plan envisages a greater role of wind and solar in the future energy mix contributing to a 25% decline from 2021-2030, noting that there is little remaining land use capacity for further hydroelectric projects.
