Summary

The RFS establishes biofuel volume requirements and associated percentage standards for cellulosic biofuel, biomass-based diesel (BBD), advanced biofuel, and total renewable fuel. In June 2025, the EPA announced its standards for the 2026-2027 period, in which it proposed higher volume requirements. The EPA also included considerable regulatory changes such as reducing the amount of Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs) generated from imported or foreign feedstocks, and removing renewable electricity as a qualiffying fuel under the program, aiming to further the Trump administration's goal of eliminating the EV mandate.
