Action Plan for the Development of Carbon Dioxide Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS)

Geography
Year
2025
Document Type
Policy

Summary

The plan responds both to requests of the Czech industry and to EU legislation, particularly Regulation (EU) 2024/1735 – the Net-Zero Industry Act, which aims at ensuring an annual geological storage of at least 50 Mt CO2 by 2030 across the EU. It is reflected that existing strategic documents on the national level lack the required level of detail and concrete measures as regards CCUS development.

The main objective of the action plan for the development of CCUS is to describe these technologies, their potential and limitations in the Czech Republic, including the introduction of methods of support and enabling development in all parts of the value chain (capture, transport, use/storage). The Action Plan can thus become the basis for possible subsequent management decisions in the area of decarbonization.
