Summary

This Code follows the commitment in the Singapore Green Building Masterplan 2021 to pursue sustainability standards in Singapore's built environment. It sets out the minimum environmental sustainability standard for existing buildings and the administrative requirements in complying with the Building Control (Environmental Sustainability Measures for Existing Buildings) Regulations 2013. It includes the compliance method for determining the level of environmental sustainability of an existing building. Updated in 2021 alongside the Code for Environmental Sustainability of Buildings (Edition 4.0), one of the key changes to the Environmental Sustainability requirements will include raising the minimum energy performance standards to ensure energy efficiency improvements of 50% over the 2005 baseline for new buildings and 40% over the 2005 baseline for existing buildings which have undergone major retrofit.
