The Act aims to accelerate the expansion of cross-state (länderübergreifend) and cross-border (grenzüberschreitend) extra-high-voltage transmission lines, including offshore wind farm grid connections to onshore connection points. It created the basis for legally secure, transparent, efficient, and environmentally sound expansion and reinforcement of the transmission grid. It applies specifically to lines designated as cross-state/cross-border in the Bundesbedarfsplangesetz (Federal Requirements Plan Act), which defines the concrete projects.
