Summary

The main goal of the Strategy is to provide policy guidance and oversight on environmental management for sustainable socio-economic development in Tanzania. It’s objective is to establish a national framework for guiding harmonised and coordinated environmental management to improve welfare of present and future generations. In terms of climate change, it seeks to strengthen the national capacity for addressing climate change impacts. The strategies identified to achieve this climate goal include:

  • Developing and implementing programmes to enhance national capacity on climate change adaptation and mitigation;
  • Developing and implementing mechanisms for strengthening mainstreaming of climate change in national development plans and sectoral policies;
  • Creating programmes for collaboration implement between Government and private sector in climate change adaptation and mitigation;
  • Developing and implementing programmes for raising public awareness on climate change issues;
  • Enhancing regional and international cooperation on addressing climate change;
  • Formulating and implementing programmes for promotion of development and transfer of green affordable technologies.
