The Law No. 24-04 of 16 Chaâbane 1445, corresponding to 26 February 2024 establishes the rules for disaster prevention, response, and risk reduction within the framework of sustainable development. The Law contains requirements on the prevention of extreme climate risks (strong winds; heavy rainfall; sandstorms; heat and cold waves) -- areas exposed to each risk are to be classified according to their severity for information, monitoring and the adoption of appropriate preventive measures. Measures must be taken to control urbanisation and reducing population vulnerability, by respecting standards for resisting these hazards, extending national weather forecast networks and assessing health risks.
