Summary

The National Policy and Strategy on Disaster Risk Management aims to reduce disaster risks and potential damage caused by a disaster through a comprehensive and coordinated Disaster Risk Management System in the context of sustainable development. The policy focuses on ten directives, which include the Disaster Risk Management System, and Early Warning System, Official Disaster Declaration System, Resource mobilisation, Information and communication, among other directives. It recommends the creation of a Disaster Risk Management Council to lead the implementation of the policy, and of a Disaster Risk Management Coordination to support this task by coordinating different stakeholders. In addition, the Policy recognises as one of the cross-cutting issues the vulnerability caused by climate change.
