The Cabinet Order 85/2026 approved the Plan for reducing emissions of fine particles, ammonia, nitrogen oxides, volatile organic compounds and sulfur dioxide for 2026-2030. The overall goal of the plan is to reduce the negative impact of air pollution on the environment and human health. It tackles the emission of several substances responsible for air pollution, amongst them some greenhouse gases such as SO2 and NOx.The plan makes a clear link between the climate and air protection policies also at the municipal level, where municipalities can voluntarily develop a sustainable energy and climate action plan (SECAP) and outlines measures with a positive impact on air quality, such as the use of emission-free RES (wind, sun) for energy production and measures that increase energy efficiency. Another measure mentioned is the replacement of old and inefficient biomass-using technologies with emission-free renewables also has a positive impact.
