Summary

This law promotes sustainability, implement mechanisms for the conservation, protection and use of tourist destinations and attractions, as well as strengthen the formalisation and competitiveness of the sector and promote the recovery of the tourism industry, through the creation of incentives, Strengthening quality and adopting measures to drive transformation and opportunities in the sector.

The law aims to boost ecotourism. Article 15 on climate change measures for the tourism sector states  that the Tourism Industry Advisory Council will develop public-private strategies for mitigation and adaptation to climate change aimed at minimising the carbon footprint of the tourism sector, in line with the principles and definitions established in Law 1931/2018. These strategies must contain mitigation, control and compensation measures for greenhouse gas emissions generated by tourism activities, as well as adaptation to the negative impacts of climate change.
