The Energy Industry Act (EnWG) provides the legal framework for Germany's electricity and gas sectors. It aims to ensure a secure, affordable, efficient, and increasingly sustainable energy supply by regulating energy networks, promoting competition, and facilitating non-discriminatory grid access. The Act has been amended repeatedly to support the energy transition (Energiewende), including measures to accelerate grid expansion, improve the integration of renewable energy, enhance system flexibility, and contribute to Germany's climate neutrality objectives.
