The National Climate Change Plan (the Climate Plan) guides adaptation and mitigation efforts to reduce the adverse effects of climate change and the vulnerability of environmental, social, and economic systems.
The Resolution No. 03, dated September 14, 2023, provides for the update of the Climate Plan and defines it as an instrument of the National Policy on Climate Change (PNMC) to consolidate the strategies, plans, and targets of the Federal Executive Branch, contributing to the objectives of the Policy and to the achievement of the targets established in the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement.

 Brazil's Adaptation Climate Plan: Sectoral Plan for Energy

Brazil’s Sectoral Plan for Energy is part of the Adaptation Climate Plan framework and aims to strengthen the resilience of the country’s energy system to climate change impacts. The plan focuses on identifying and reducing climate-related risks to energy generation, transmission, distribution, and supply, including risks associated with extreme weather events, changing hydrological conditions, heatwaves, droughts, and other climate hazards. It promotes the integration of climate risk management into energy planning, the diversification and reliability of energy infrastructure, and the adoption of adaptation measures that enhance energy security while supporting a sustainable and resilient energy transition.
Main Objectives:

Climate change can have a range of impacts on technological system. Extreme weather events can cause infrastructure failures like power outages or damage to roads and bridges, as well as the impacts from waste following natural disasters. Human activities also cause technological impacts, such as the risks posed by oil spillage and leaks.

Geohazards are adverse geological phenomenon's that are capable of causing widespread damage or loss to property, life and the environment, such as earthquakes, volcano eruptions and tsunamis. Climate change can increase the frequency and severity of some geohazards, such as landslides, and soil erosion.
