This act, predicated on the aim of increasing energy security, creates an independent authority, the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority, to promote the development and use of renewable energy. The act specifies 23 responsibilities of the authority, including to:<br>&nbsp;- Encourage the use of power and energy efficient equipment and take necessary steps for standardisation and labelling of power and energy using equipment and appliances<br>&nbsp;- Assist the government in making and implementation of energy efficient building code<br>&nbsp;- Provide technical and financial assistance in research, development, demonstration and training on renewable energy<br>&nbsp;- Encourage commercialisation of renewable energy and energy efficiency activities in private sector through implementation of pilot project
