The Environmental Code of the Republic of Tajikistan provides a legislative framework and overarching direction for environmental protection, establishing essential duties and responsibilities of the state and other actors. It compiles and builds on existing environmental legislation. The code names climate change mitigation and adaptation as key elements of the protection of the environment, over which the state has legal responsibility, and notes climate change as a key environmental research area. It acknowledges the threat of climate change more broadly across the economy, emphasising the need for action across sectors.
Government statements from September and December 2025 confirm and schedule that the code, subject to possible minor revisions, will be formally approved in early 2026.
