The Electricity Supply Business Plan 2021-2030 (Rencana Usaha Penyediaan Tenaga Listrik, RUPTL) prioritises development of new renewable energy (Green RUPTL), implementation of minimum energy performance standards for appliances, as well as the development of new renewable energy in Indonesia. Regarding renewables, the RUPTL plans for the 23% share from renewables in 2025 as dictated by the 2014 National Energy Policy. It also emphasises that in 2025 the role of oil will be less than 25%, coal will be at least 30%, and natural gas will be at least 22%.The RUPTL 2025–2034 continued the 10-year planning cycle, with updated projections for electricity demand, energy mix, and infrastructure development.
The latest RUPTL (2025-2034) has set a target of 42.6 GW of renewable energy capacity and 10.3 GW of energy storage by 2034. Of this, solar energy is expected to contribute 17.2 GW, while hydropower will account for 11.7 GW. In the second half of the planning period (2030-2034), 70% of the renewable energy developments are scheduled to take place. The RUPTL also includes plans to utilize nuclear energy as a baseload source, with a planned capacity of 500 MW projected for 2033, coming from two proposed projects. Additionally, the RUPTL features plans to add 3.4 GW of new grid-connected coal capacity by 2029, with another 2.8 GW planned for 2034.
