GB Energy will increase domestic clean energy production and public ownership of clean energy assets, build stronger UK supply chains, create jobs, and drive long-term growth of the local and community energy sector – ensuring the public benefits from the energy transition. Following from this objective, the company must secure that its articles of association contain a statement of its objects, which are restricted to facilitating, encouraging and participating in:
(a) the production, distribution, storage and supply of clean energy,
(b) the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from energy produced from fossil fuels,
(c) improvements in energy efficiency,
(d) measures for ensuring the security of the supply of energy, and
(e) measures for ensuring that slavery and human trafficking is not taking place in its business or supply chains,
(including through projects involving or benefitting local communities).
In December 2025, GB Energy published a Strategic Plan outlines a series of targets for 2030, including: the creation of an investment portfolio that aims to deliver 15GW in clear energy generation and mobilise £15billion of private finance by 2030; the support of over 1,000 local and community energy projects, with the objective of enhancing community ownership of projects; and supporting a just transition in areas that are historically dependent on oil and gas by funding projects that will create 10,000 new jobs, among other things.
