The purpose of these Regulations is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from heavy-duty vehicles and engines by establishing emission standards and test procedures that are aligned with the federal requirements of the United States.
On June 29, 2021, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) published a Final Rule in the Federal Register, entitled Improvements for Heavy-Duty Engine and Vehicle Test Procedures, and Other Technical Amendments that introduces technical amendments to the U.S. EPA emission regulations to modify existing test procedures and other provisions for vehicles and engines.
Canadian vehicle and engine emission regulations are aligned with the U.S. EPA emission regulations Consequently, on December 18, 2021, the Heavy-duty Vehicle and Engine Greenhouse Gas Emissions Regulation was amended to maintain alignment with the corresponding technical amendments in the US EPA’s Final Rule.
