Summary

In November 2023, Vietnam's Law on Water Resources No. 17/2012/QH13 was repealed by the Law on Water Resources No. 28/2023/QH15. The Law on Water Resources regulates the management, protection, exploitation and use of water resources, as well as the prevention of, combat against and overcoming of harmful effects caused by water in the territory of Vietnam. The Law on Water Resources includes several considerations regarding climate change response.  In particular, Article 12 regulates the operation of basic survey on water resources. Such a survey must also assess, warn, and forecast the impact of climate change over water resources.

Furthermore, a strategy on water resources must consider the results of the basic survey, including the forecast of impacts from climate change on water sources. (Article 14.1(d) of the Law on Water Resources). A planning on water resources must be made on the basis of the impacts of climate change for water resources.
