Summary

The Vision for the Policy is as follows:

• New areas of economic growth and employment related to energy, built on long-term competitive advantage.• Equitable and fair distribution of benefits and costs from energy transition.• Captures economic benefit and remains globally competitive by keeping pace with energy transition trends.• Affordable and reliable access to energy.• A leader in environmental sustainability and the green economy in ASEAN.• Continuous efficient utilisation of energy and indigenous energy resources.• Contribute to fiscal and trade balance health.

To this end, strategies and action plans have been built around optimising energy resources, stimulating growth and market opportunities, enhancing sustainability in the energy sector and ensuring energy security. Key actions include large-scale solar projects, increased use of biofuels, developing a hydrogen economy, promoting energy vehicles and continuing the development of petrochemical hubs in Sabah and Sarawak to improve and strengthen Malaysia's natural gas advantage.

The Policy also contains the Low Carbon Nation Aspiration 2040, which comprises targets in energy-related sectors such as transport, industrial, residential and commercial.
