Summary

Jordan's National Water Strategy (2016-2025) is the third in the series and has been adapted to the post-Millenium Development Goals era, in tune with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It identifies priorities for the water sector from 2016-2025, including but not limited to resilience, access to clean water, efficient integrated water resource management and a climate change adaptation plan. The areas of water management covered by the Strategy include sustainability of overexploited groundwater resources, technological developments for decentralised wastewater management, and reuse of treated wastewater, among other things. An important issue addressed by the Strategy is the water-energy-food nexus, identifying the input-usage relationship between these three sectors. The Strategy aims to monitor progress through specific targets and indicators that have been set along 4 parameters, namely Financial Sustainability, Enhancement of services of Water and Wastewater, Supply of Water to meet the Demand and Protection and Sustainability of Water Resources.
