<p>The national climate change strategy of 2018 formalises and operationalises what the country set out in its 2016 draft national climate change response policy. It aims to create a sustainable, climate-resilient, and low-carbon society, and lays out priority strategies for strategic sectors and highlights them as either adaptation or mitigation priority response sectors, as well as cross-cutting themes, such as gender and education. The National Climate Change Action Plan serves as an accompanying document (included here), and provides a clear pathway for the implementation and monitoring of the strategy by providing targets and indicators for each strategy.</p>

Policy instruments are techniques or tools used by governing authorities to promote certain policies in order to achieve predetermined goals. Put simply, instruments are how a government tries to achieve its goals, with this taxonomy being focused on national policy instruments.

Risk is the potential for adverse consequences resulting from the dynamic interplay between (climate-related) hazards, exposure, and vulnerability of affected human or ecological systems.

Extreme weather refers to events where a weather variable exceeds (or falls below) a threshold. Meaning it is significantly different from the average or usual weather pattern.
