The Policy aims to provide a framework for an integrated approach to sustainable management of Kenya's environment and natural resources. In particular it proposes to strengthen:
<ul>
<li>Legal and institutional framework for good governance</li>
<li>Integrate environmental management with economic growth, poverty reduction and improving livelihoods</li>
<li>Research and capacity development</li>
<li>Promote new environment management tools</li>
<li>Promote collaboration and cooperation and partnerships in environment management,</li>
<li>Promote domestication, co-ordination and maximisation of benefit from Strategic Multilateral Environment Agreements</li>
</ul>
&nbsp; The Policy discusses intended climate change-related policy actions, as follows::
<ul>
<li>Develop a comprehensive climate change policy</li>
<li>Strengthen capacity for national and country level institutions for climate resilience and low carbon development</li>
<li>Develop and implement awareness and capacities for implement the climate change action plan</li>
<li>Strengthen and enhance an early warning and response system for disaster risk reduction</li>
<li>Strengthen research capacity</li>
<li>Develop a climate financing mechanism</li>
<li>Establish a national carbon trading platform</li>
<li>Promote public and community participation in mitigation and adaptation</li>
</ul>
