Basic Environment Plan

Japan's Basic Environmental Plan defines the principles that govern the implementation of environmental policies in Japan, especially with respect to climate change policies. It also outlines the current policy frameworks in place for government environment- and climate change-related policy matters and proposes new areas of priority for the government. The policy priorities related to climate change the plan lists include:

• Promoting research and development of emissions reduction technologies
• Promoting energy conservation
• Promoting adaptation measures in regional agriculture and disaster prevention sectors
• Implementing national policy frameworks, such as the Plan for Global Warming Countermeasures.
