On May 22, 2023, the Capital Markets Authority (CMA), also known as "Boursa Kuwait” introduced new guidelines to help companies write their non-mandatory sustainability reports.
These guidelines offer a starting point for companies to report on sustainability in ways that support Kuwait's goals for sustainable development as outlined in its Vision 2035 and its aim to have no net carbon emissions by 2060. The guidelines are based on international recommendations and are meant for all companies listed on Boursa Kuwait, but following them is not compulsory.
The guidelines suggest companies report on environmental issues like greenhouse gas emissions, energy and water use, and how they manage climate risks.
