The Climate Change Act (No. 3 of 2024) is an Act to implement the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Paris Agreement and the Kyoto Protocol to provide for the functions of the Department responsible for climate change matters, to establish an electronic climate change database and the Climate Change Committee, to set the parameters for the development of a Climate Change Adaptation Policy, the National Adaptation Plan, the Nationally Determined Contribution, and to account for greenhouse gas emissions and for related matters.
The three aforementioned climate international agreements, and a protocol or agreement made under the UNFCCC have the force of law in Saint Lucia.
The Climate Change Adaptation Policy and the National Adaptation Plan are to be developed every five years. Individuals or organisations conducting research on climate change in St Lucia shall provide the Department with details of research activities and a copy of the final research findings.
