Climate Change Policy for Resilient Water Sector (2016)
2016Adaptation, MitigationPolicyPolicy
Sectors: Water
The Climate Change Policy for a Resilient Water Sector (2016) is part of a range of plans and policies that have been adopted for Jordan's water sector by the Ministry for Water and Irrigation. With resilience as the guiding principle, this Policy identifies priority solutions for the water sector, based on Integrated Water Resource Management. Specific actions include fossil-based and solar-based desalination, wastewater reuse, water harvesting, water imports, solar energy farming and afforestation. The implementation of this Policy takes place in three phases, which are Prioritisation, Climate Proofing (refers to the process of identifying risks and vulnerabilities inherent in climate solutions, and addressing or strengthening the weaknesses) and finally Monitoring. This Policy is meant to be supplemented by Jordan's National Water Strategy 2016-2025.
