The Environmental and Climate Change Office of the MAG is created, reporting to the Ministerial Office.

The 2010-2024 National Energy Policy promotes the reduction of the use of fossil fuels in industry, transportation and households to diversify the energy mix and reduce dependence on external energy supplies, while integrating climate change mitigation and adaptation considerations. It emphasises the importance of fostering the development of unconventional renewable energy sources (such as photovoltaic, wind, and biofuels) while continuing the development of conventional renewable sources (such as hydropower and geothermal energy). &nbsp; &nbsp;The Policy is organised around six main strategy directions, which highly inter-related and to be followed in consultation with key energy sector stakeholders: &nbsp;1. Diversification of energy matrix and promotion of renewable energy sources &nbsp;2. Strengthening of the energy sector institutions and consumer protection &nbsp;3. Promotion of an efficiency and energy saving culture &nbsp;4. Extension of energy access coverage and of preferential social rates &nbsp;5. Technological innovation and development &nbsp;6. Regional energy integration

The key principles of this plan are: • The national plan for adaptation to climate change is part of the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals, the National Plan for Climate Change and the Nationally Determined Contributions. • The formulation of the plan must consider different approaches: gender, multi-ethnic groups, generational. • Establish and strengthen institutional, sectoral and local capacities to achieve adaptation to climate change. • The plan must be approached from a sectoral and territorial perspective, since it is precisely in the territories where the impact of climate change is felt, with the effects on the populations and resources that cohabit there. • Empowerment of the national adaptation plan and its sectoral plans involving the different sectors and the population in general, and especially vulnerable groups, for which a participatory approach is established, and with a “bottom-up” construction scheme. ”, through consultation and validation processes. This participation must involve municipalities, government institutions and agencies, non-governmental organizations, the private sector, academia, and other relevant sectors. • The national plan and the sectoral and intersectoral plans must be constituted in an integrated set of measures that allow generating climate resilience in El Salvador.

This plan aims to protect and regrow the country's forests.&nbsp;

The present action plan was consolidated, identifying the pertinent guidelines to direct the restoration at the national scale with the support of solid analysis and through a process of participation and consultation, and feedback from the main actors involved in the restoration (see annex 1). In this way, the appropriation of technical inputs is guaranteed, sharing their experiences and defining their own strategies and commitments. The structure of this document has been divided into three large sections: 1) Current situation, which contains the environmental framework of the landscape of El Salvador and the political and legal framework that supports the restoration; 2) Evaluation of opportunities for restoration, which presents the inputs for decision-making, and the results obtained from the ROAM methodology as support for the development of the strategic approach; and 3) Description of the action plan, which contains the philosophical framework and the strategic framework.

The purpose of this Law is to establish the responsibilities of the State in the development of a legal framework that guides towards a sustainable production model of family, peasant and indigenous agriculture based on agroecology, resilient to climate change, that contributes to economic development, equity and social inclusion, as well as the comprehensive management of landscapes.

The main objective of this law is to generate a regulatory framework that promotes the use and promotion of the bicycle as an ecological and friendly means of transport, both in urban and rural areas. Art. 2 states that the use and promotion of the bicycle as an ecological and friendly private means of transport is declared of public interest, whose promotion is in charge of the State at all levels of government in coordination with the natural and legal persons related to the government in this Law.

This law aims to promote the use of electric and hybrid vehicles in the country within the public and the private sectors, in order to reduce carbon emissions.&nbsp;

Concerns the Financial Cooperation Agreement with the Federal Republic of Germany, for the Project called: "Urban Adaptation to Climate Change in Central America (El Salvador Component)" according to Legislative Decree No. 362 dated June 27, 2019, published in the Official Gazette No. 134, Volume No. 424 of July 18 of the same year, which has allowed the execution of mitigation works in different human settlements in urban, peri-urban and rural areas.

This amendment to the General Education Law requires the Ministry of Education to encourage throughout the education system: environmental sustainability, ecological risk management, and adaptation and mitigation of climate change.The amendment further requires the Ministry to adjust its educational programs consistent with this law, within 2012.

Creation of the Advisory Group on Climate Change (Decree No. 31)

Law passed

This decree establishes the Advisory Group on Climate Change as a permanent body whose purpose it is to provide a space for dialogue, advise the government on climate change as it relates to sustainable development in the country, assist in preparing the country's national climate change policy, the country's national climate change plan and the country's communications to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
