Summary

Under this program, manufacturers (importers) are mandated to produce and sell energy efficient products from the outset. This program is Korea’s core energy efficiency standards labeling scheme. Energy Efficiency Label and Standard Program enables consumers to identify energy efficient products easily by (1) mandatory indication of energy efficiency grade from 1st to 5th grade (2) mandatory reporting, and (3) applying MEPS (Minimum Energy Performance Standard).

The energy efficiency and labelling programme was lauched by the Regulations on the Operation of Energy Efficiency Management Equipment in 1992 with the last modification in 2022. According to the energy agency the legal basis is the Energy Use Rationalization Act.
