- Environment Act
This Law establishes the basic principles and norms for the protection, conservation and recovery of the environment, promoting the sustainable use of natural resources. In addition, it organizes environmental management and integrates it with social and economic objectives, in order to achieve sustainable human development in the country.
The law notably determines the legal framework around renewable energy resources and reforestation efforts. Article 79 states that Panama recognizes, as an environmental service of the forest, the capture of carbon, and will establish mechanisms to capture financial and economic resources, through jointly agreed programs, internationally agreed upon.
