Republic of Moldova Environmental Strategy for 2024-2030

The Environment Strategy for Moldova for 2014-2023 was adopted by the Moldovan Government via decision No. 301 of 24.04.2014. The second of the strategy's key objectives includes the integration of "environmental protection, sustainable development, and green economy principles, of climate change adaptation principles into all sectors of the national economy". The strategy includes an emissions reduction target of 20% by 2020 and sets out a number of actions with regard to the institutional management of environmental matters and knowledge dissemination activities.

The Environment Strategy for 2024-2030 was approved via Government Decision no. 409/2024 and also sets climate change mitigation and adaptation as key priorities. On combating climate change the strategy emphasises the role of the forestry, agricultural and transport sectors, summarising and promoting existing measures to decarbonise and build resilience in these areas. On adaptation to climate change, the strategy emphasises capacity-building as well as the implementation and enhancement of existing sectoral measures. Nature restoration, technological modernisation and enhanced regulation feature prominently across sectors.
