Forestry law of Venezuela

The national forestry policy must guide the country's forestry development, establishing the strategies, priorities, objectives and goals of national, regional and local scope, considering the ecological, geographic, population, social, cultural, economic, technological and political realities, their relationships with climate change, desertification, and drought, loss of biological diversity and deterioration of hydrographic basins. This law considers as a declaration of public order, the provisions that govern what refers to environmental education, forest culture, prevention and control of crimes against forest heritage, among others. (Article 5). It determines in its article 19 the right of citizens to be able to have access to scientific, common and traditional knowledge, allowing them to establish their own judgments about forest conservation as a component of their habitat, the forest environment in general and the role that the human being fulfills as a modifying factor of such ecosystems.

The law promotes in article 54.5 the conservation of forests as carbon sinks.
