This Act is concerned with ensuring the security of supply, and efficient use of gas. The main objective of this Federal Act, as can be found in Section 4, includes laying the groundwork for decarbonisation and the economic supply and efficient use of gaseous energy carriers, contributing to the goals of the Paris Agreement 2015. It further discussed the objective to take the steps necessary for Austria's goal to reach climate neutrality in 2040, specifically when it comes to planning gas pipelines and raising the share of renewable gas. In order to achieve the goal of climate neutrality, it includes obligations for distribution area managers to create an integrated long-term plan towards climate neutrality by 2040. Gas pipelines systems aso need to be created in order to support the long-term goal of climate neutrality by 2040. The Gas Act includes disclosure (labelling) obligations, among which providing information to the customers on their supply mix, the environmental impact of the gas on the bill, the supplier mx in terms of the gases, and transparency on the technology used to produce the gas.
