Summary

This Act provides for climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction; provides for climate change mitigation, low emission development, green economy and related actions; regulates carbon markets; provides for environmental and social safeguards in climate change actions; and establishes the Climate Change Fund.

This Act designates the Department of Green Economy and Climate Change as the ministry responsible to administer the Act, and a Green Economy and Climate Chnage Council and Technical Committee. Under the Act, a National Adaptation Plan and a National Mitigation Plan, to be revised every five years, will be developed.

The Act also contains provisions on monitoring emissions; managing carbon stock and carbon markets; registering verifiers; enforcement; and managing green economy interventions.
