The First National Further Education and Training (FET) Strategy for the Green Transition was launched on 15 October 2024, in collaboration with SOLAS. It builds on the commitment of the current FET strategy to ensure the development of essential climate change and environmental knowledge. This strategy shapes the response and contribution of the sector towards meeting Ireland’s climate action targets by identifying critical skills gaps, and presenting strategic and sector-specific recommendations to support the growing demand for green skills. Its implementation will be overseen by the Green Skills 2030 Implementation Group.
Green Skills 2030 sets out:
- key skills gaps across critical sectors that are affecting Ireland’s ability to transition to a climate-neutral society
- strategic and sector-specific recommendations
- opportunities to respond to skills gaps and build an inclusive workforce as part of the green transition
- ways in which FET can equip learners with the necessary skills to support the transition to a green economy and society
