The primary aim of this law is to modernise the regulatory framework for energy, water services, and urban waste management. It also incorporates EU Directives 2018/2001 and 2019/944 to enhance legislation regarding the use and production of electricity from renewable sources. In relation to these directives, the law defines and applies the following terms: geothermal energy, hydrothermal energy, biomass from agricultural and forestry sources, biofuels, biological waste, and starchy plants and related products used for biofuel production. The law also provides for several key energy measures, including:
a)Calculation of the share of energy sourced from renewables
b)Information and training on renewable energy sources
c)Financial incentives and support measures for renewable energy communities and cooperatives
d)Self-consumption of energy from renewable sources
e)Utilisation of renewable energy sources in the transport sector
f)Special provisions for biofuels produced from crops
g)Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions for biofuels and biomass fuels from various origins.
