Since 1998, laws have been passed for the energy sector to provide the nation with a legal framework that will promote sustained growth in the country's energy capacity, prioritizing the rational use of natural resources as a primary source of energy to reduce our dependence on oil imports.
The purpose of this Law is to promote and establish the basic conditions that will regulate the exploration and exploitation of the country's geothermal resources for the exclusive generation of electric energy. Geothermal resources are national heritage, in accordance with the Political Constitution of the Republic of Nicaragua and other laws of the Republic.

The State promotes, regulates and establishes the activities inherent to the exploration and exploitation of geothermal resources.
