This law creates the framework for the application of Directive 2009/28 / EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 April 2009 on the promotion of energy from renewable sources. The law mandates a new centralised specialist body to develop a national plan to achieve renewable energy targets drawn from the Directive, as well as making provision for a number of other bodies to play a role in monitoring and regulating compliance with the law and laying down the basic political objectives and regulatory support mechanisms for the deployment of renewable energy resources.
