Summary

The overall goal of MTDP III is to secure the future through inclusive sustainable economic growth.

The key objectives of the MTDP III are:

  • Increase the internal revenue on a sustainable basis to secure sufficient resources from domestic tax collections, non-tax revenues and export earnings
  • Increase training, capacity and employment opportunities for PNG citizens
  • Increase PNG ownership and benefits in the formal business sector
  • Improve quality of service delivery in rural districts across the country
  • Create a safe and competitive environment to attract foreign and domestic investments
  • Support provinces and districts to generate sustainable internal revenue
  • Manage population growth at a sustainable level and promote family planning 
  • Improve evidence-based planning process

The 2016-2017 Plan defines how the government intends to act over the short and medium-term in line with its Vision to 2050. It notably seeks 1) a higher climate resilience, 2) to protect national rainforests notably because of they are carbon sinks, 3) and a a reduction of fossil-fuels in energy systems.
