National Cooling Strategy of Jordan

Sectors: Energy, Buildings, Economy-wide

Jordan's National Cooling Strategy, published in 2024, attempts to holistically guide improvements in sustainable cooling, motivated by the social, economic and environmental benefits of enhanced cooling deployment. The goals of this strategy contribute to Jordan's carbon dioxide and hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) emissions reduction targets, as well as the nation's broader Economic Modernisation Vision (2022-2033). HFCs are a potent greenhouse gas used in some air conditioning and industrial/domestic refrigeration, and the strategy aims for a total phase-out of HFCs in Jordan by 2030. The strategy also aims to enhance efficiency in supply chains requiring cooling, such as medical and food industries, helping to meet growing demand for cooling across the economy. It acknowledges and supports cooling-related proposals in a range of other policies and strategies such as Jordan's National Climate Change Policy (2022-2050) and Green Growth National Action Plan (2021-2025).
