This Framework is aimed at decarbonising the energy sector and is a long-term net-zero framework, expected to complement existing efforts with new measures, such as increased renewable energy penetration, conversion of thermal plants to natural gas and the integration of nuclear power into the energy mix. Ghana is determined to extract critical (green) minerals, including lithium and graphite, to make efficient use of them and establish Ghana as a hub for electric vehicles and the production of battery technologies.
Ghana will establish the National Energy Transition Implementation Committee, and set up the National Energy Transition Coordinating Office to drive the implementation of this framework, with participation by the key institutions including the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Transport, and Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.
This Framework covers the electricity, petroleum, transport and critical minerals sectors, national greenhouse gas emissions, energy demand and production, economic, social and envrionmental imapcts, and cost and investment requirements.
