The National Climate Change Policy 2.0 is an update from the 2009 Policy aimed at transitioning the country toward a low-carbon economy and enhancing climate resilience. This involves integrating climate change considerations into all aspects of governance and development, promoting sustainable practices, and ensuring that Malaysia meets its climate commitments, including achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
The policy is structured around a strategic framework with four main objectives, five strategic thrusts, 15 strategies, and 90 key actions. It is guided by four key principles: common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities, just and equitable transition, a whole-of-society and nation approach, and integrated and multi-sectoral solutions.
