The National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty II (NSGRP II) published by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs was due to be implemented between 2010/11 and 2014/15. It aims at accelerating economic growth, reducing poverty, improving standards of living and social welfare as well as good governance and accountability, and to involve the private sector in doing so.
The country seeks economic growth notably to ensure food and nutrition security, environmental sustainability and climate change adaptation and mitigation (cluster I, goal 4). To meet that goal, the country pursues to develop crop and livestock varieties suited to adverse conditions brought about by climate change, and climate change projection, early warning and natural disaster response, with a strengthened coordination framework.
The Strategy also looks at developing decent human settlements while sustaining environmental quality (cluster II, goal 5), via 1) planning towns with sustainable transport and cleaner energy supply, and 2) address the implications of rapid urban population growth.
