On 25 April 2024, the US Environmental Protection Agency announced a rule setting greenhouse gas emission control requirements for existing coal-fired and new or substantially modified gas-fired power plants. This rule is part of regulations under Section 111 of the Clean Air Act that address greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel-fired electric generating units. The final rule took effect on 8 July 2024.
