Roadmap for Carbon Pricing Instruments and Carbon Markets 2025

Summary

This roadmap sets out a comprehensive framework for the implementation of carbon pricing instruments and carbon markets in Chile, with the primary aim of contributing to long-term national climate mitigation goals. It follows from provisions in Chile's 2022 framework law on climate change, as well as the Paris Agreement of 2015. It promotes both green taxes and carbon trading, and gives aims and criteria for assessment and spending for the money raised across sectors, applying to industrial, transport, land-use, energy storage and waste-related activities. Projects generating carbon certifications are only considered if they have received regulatory approval and apply to national territory only.
