The National Forest Policy aims to guide the long-term management, conservation and development of Rwanda's forest resources. It notes the importance of forest carbon sequestration for climate mitigation, and the need to ensure that forests and the resources they provide are also resilient to the effects of climate change. The policy aims to ensure sustainable forestry management at all levels, securing biomass supply for rural communities while preventing ecosystem degradation. It supports additional climate-resilient actions such as agroforestry development, and promotes seeking national and international climate finance to support climate-safe forest usage and recovery.
