Spanish Self-Consumption Roadmap

The Spanish Self-Consumption Roadmap establishes an ambitious framework to promote distributed energy generation, targeting between 9,000 MW and 14,000 MW of installed self-consumption capacity by 2030. The policy outlines 37 specific measures focusing on public awareness, professional training, and regulatory improvements, supported by European Next Generation funds with an initial allocation of 660 million euros (expandable to 1.32 billion euros). The strategy emphasises collective self-consumption initiatives, particularly in residential communities, and industrial applications, while establishing coordination mechanisms between different administrative levels through a National Self-Consumption Board. This policy builds upon Spain's competitive advantages in renewable resources, particularly solar energy, and aims to contribute to the country's broader decarbonisation goals while stimulating economic growth through the creation of an estimated 25,000 direct and indirect jobs.
