Strategy on Countering Corruption

2021AdaptationPolicyStrategyMore details
Sectors: Economy-wide, Finance

The United States Strategy on Countering Corruption organises the government approach to curb corruption around five pillars:

  1. Modernizing, coordinating, and resourcing U.S. Government efforts to fight corruption
  2. Curbing illicit finance
  3. Holding corrupt actors accountable
  4. Preserving and strengthening the multilateral anti-corruption architecture
  5. Improving diplomatic engagement and leveraging foreign assistance resources to advance policy goals

The Strategy acknowledges that corruption has been shown to "significantly curtail" the ability of states to respond effectively to address climate change, amongst other challenges. The Strategy expressly refers to "integrat[ing] anti-corruption considerations into its activities to provide $11 billion in climate finance to support climate action in developing nations, to ensure that those funds achieve their intended purpose.”

One of the 'line of efforts' will include "integrating anti-corruption programming and safeguards into key Administration priorities, including... climate adaptation efforts".
