<p>This Act is based on the “polluter pays” principle, focused on preventing and remedying environmental damage. The Act applies to protected species and natural habitats and is applicable to damage inflicted both on water and on land, dealing with the actions to be undertaken to prevent and remedy environmental damages. This sector involves managing waste treatment, sanitation, pollution control and environmental cleanup.

Any substance with chemical properties that can cause physical harm to people or damage the environment, including ammonia, carbon monoxide, phosphine, chlorine, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, pesticides, dioxins, microplastics, benzene, asbestos, aflatoxins, fluoride, methanol, and toxins from marine sources.

Human activities also cause technological impacts, such as the risks posed by oil spillage and leaks.
